I was so happy to find out that the Keebler Elf was moving back to Virginia or wherever he came from. I could go to work knowing that I wasn’t going to have to make excuses for why I didn’t want to do out with someone. He was leaving in two weeks.

For two weeks he asked me to move to Virginia with him.

I never, ever should have opened my mouth and told the Keebler Elf that I was planning on leaving my (soon to be ex) Husband or why I was leaving. I don’t really have an explanation for why other than I hadn’t really told anyone (other than my friend Cat) at that point, and I was unusually jumpy and depressed.

And asked what was wrong and I told him.

That was when he started hitting on me.

I have had a few successful first dates off the internets. Two of them, to be exact. The Flake and Dreads. I have found that you have to weed through a lot of crap before finding something good in the shit pile.

Is it worth even trying? I’m not sure.

Which is why they usually don’t make it to second dates. At least in my case. First impressions really matter to me. And it might be kind of hard to make a good first impression when everyone is nervous and we don’t know each other at all due to the whole online dating thing.

So here are some of the reasons that first dates suck. And what I’d like to see improved in my own dating life.

because it’s funny, sometimes, to read the personals. I read men and women. I’m looking for entertainment here. I like the fights people sometimes get into on there. Anyway. Here’s am ad I came across and was thinking “wtf, I can barely read this shit.”

I had a hard time reading that. But I can see the movie Idiocracy being played out in the near future.

Dating tip for boys: If you’re going to post a personals ad, I would recommend proper spelling and grammar. If you put up trash, you’ll get trash in return.

“Wanna get a drink after work?”

I work with a guy, I’ll call him Dave (because that’s his name) and Dave was going through a difficult time awhile ago. He found out his wife, who he had moved all the way across the country with only months before due to her job relocation, was cheating on him with someone from her job. They had two kids together.

He was having a particularly bad day at one point and he asked if I would like to get a drink after work. We lived somewhat close to one another, it wouldn’t inconvenience me and since when do I pass up free drinks?

“Well I haven’t been on a date in awhile…

…so I thought I would join a dating website.”

I have actually seen these words in men’s profiles on dating websites. Not a good sign.
